This session will explore:

  • What is Vocational Rehabilitation and what does is encompass in all areas of work and health;
  • What is Occupational Therapy as a profession and the theoretical basis of occupation and occupational performance;
  • How OTs use rehabilitation in work and health and then specifically in occupational health.
  • Share some techniques OTs use in OH that the multi-disciplinary team can utilise in their own practice.

Dr Jain Holmes

Jain is Chair of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists special interest group for work and health. She works as a senior research fellow with the University of Nottingham and is involved with a number of studies investigating vocational rehabilitation supporting people who have health conditions to stay at and return to work. Jain’s research interests within work and health relate to understanding how vocational rehabilitation (VR) works, how best to train and test people’s competence to deliver VR and the science of implementing VR. Jain has published a book on VR and is building on her body of scientific publications. Jain has delivered a wide range of services to help people remain working and has trained 100’s of practitioners to deliver VR, FCEs and related assessments in the UK and overseas.

Mandy Kelly

Mandy is the owner of Crest Health Group Ltd, an OT-led occupational health and vocational rehabilitation company providing solution-focussed services and training programmes for employers, employees, insurers, solicitors and rehabilitation organisations.  She is also the Vice Chair for the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section in Work (RCOTSS-Work) and Director of OT for iOH. Mandy has qualifications in ergonomics, is a qualified MODAPTS practitioner, NLP practitioner, Functional Capacity Evaluator and OT Driver Assessor and has professional leadership, clinical governance, medico-legal and case management expertise. She was the first occupational therapist to complete the pre-requisite training for the Diploma in Occupational Health Practice and is looking forward to entering the examinations in 2024.
